Metalayer Ventures

About

Metalayer Ventures is a New York City-based venture capital firm focused on the next evolution of crypto and financial infrastructure. Founded by Andy Kangpan, David Winton, and Mickey Graham — all former leaders at top-tier firms like Two Sigma and Chainlink Labs — the firm brings deep technical, financial, and go-to-market experience to early-stage crypto startups. With a dedicated approach to backing category-defining infrastructure plays, Metalayer is positioned to support foundational companies in modernizing finance through blockchain technologies.

Investment Focus

Metalayer Ventures invests in early-stage startups building the core infrastructure for crypto-enabled capital markets. The firm targets three high-conviction areas: capital markets infrastructure (modernizing legacy financial rails), stablecoin and payment applications (improving access to stable, yield-bearing digital currencies), and real-world asset tokenization (creating liquidity and fractional ownership of traditional assets). Investments typically range from $500,000 to $1 million per company.

Fund

In May 2025, Metalayer Ventures closed its debut vehicle, Metalayer Fund I, at $25 million. The fund aims to build a portfolio of approximately 30 early-stage companies. Already, the firm has invested in seven startups, including Crossover Markets, ClearToken, Ethena, Station70, Theo, AnchorZero, and one additional stealth stablecoin infrastructure company.

The fund is designed to capitalize on mainstream crypto infrastructure adoption and bring enterprise-grade innovation to a sector that continues to evolve rapidly.

In addition to capital, Metalayer provides startups with hands-on support in growth, recruiting, marketing, and institutional capital formation, drawing on the team's prior experience in quantitative finance, distributed systems, and Web3 go-to-market strategy.

Other Information

Leadership
Metalayer was founded by Andy Kangpan (former Digital Asset Lead at Two Sigma Ventures), David Winton (former VP of Quantitative Software Engineering at Two Sigma), and Mickey Graham (former Head of Growth at Chainlink Labs). The team blends technical depth in quantitative systems and machine learning with high-level experience in crypto-native growth, fundraising, and institutional partnerships.

Investment Strategy
Metalayer’s strategy is to identify and support early-stage crypto infrastructure startups poised for near-term mainstream adoption. The firm targets companies building real-world utility in global finance and deploys capital early, often before traction is visible. It complements capital with high-value operational support, including customer introductions, talent acquisition, and downstream fundraising support from institutional LPs.

Notable Investments
Metalayer Fund I includes investments in:

  • Crossover Markets (crypto-native execution)
  • ClearToken (clearing and settlement infrastructure)
  • Ethena (yield-bearing stablecoin protocol)
  • Station70 (on-chain data and compliance tooling)
  • Theo (RWA tokenization), AnchorZero (newly announced)
  • A stealth-mode stablecoin infra project.

These investments reflect the fund’s sharp focus on financial infrastructure modernization and digital asset utility.
