Northpoint Capital is a new early-stage venture capital fund launched in 2025 by Sameer Brij Verma, a longtime investor and former managing director at Nexus Venture Partners. Based in India, the firm was created to back category-defining startups across emerging technology sectors. Northpoint represents Verma’s solo GP debut after a 13-year tenure at Nexus, where he participated in more than 80 investments spanning consumer tech, SaaS, enterprise software, and healthcare.
The firm targets early-stage companies, from seed to Series A, with initial check sizes ranging from 1 million to 8 million USD. Northpoint Capital focuses on startups integrating emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, across core sectors including financial services, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and consumer goods.
While primarily early-stage, the fund is also open to participating in selective follow-on rounds where it holds strong conviction.
In July 2025, Northpoint Capital secured $150 million in capital commitments for its debut fund. Approximately 90 percent of the capital came from international investors, with the remainder from Indian family offices and individual backers.
Although the fund is registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), certain regulatory approvals were still pending as of the fund’s announcement. Northpoint plans to invest in 15 to 20 companies from this vehicle, focusing on startups applying AI and emerging technologies to traditional sectors.
The fund’s strategy is rooted in high-conviction, early-stage bets, with a goal of shaping India’s next generation of transformational companies.
Leadership
Sameer Brij Verma is the founder and sole general partner of Northpoint Capital. During his time at Nexus Venture Partners, he was involved in scaling leading startups such as Postman, Unacademy, and Infra.market.
Verma is widely regarded in India’s venture ecosystem for his experience across enterprise, B2B, and SaaS investing, and his move to launch a solo GP fund reflects the increasing trend of established VCs branching out independently.
Investment Strategy
Northpoint Capital aims to back startups that are embedding emerging technology into legacy sectors to drive efficiency and unlock new markets. The fund emphasizes early conviction and deep sector knowledge, often taking a hands-on approach in the formative stages of company building.
Its investment approach combines Verma’s operational expertise and domain insights with a willingness to back ambitious founders in non-obvious sectors.
Notable Investments
As a newly launched fund, Northpoint Capital has not yet disclosed its initial portfolio companies. However, its sectoral thesis and investment size suggest a focus on scalable B2B and AI-enabled platforms.
Notable Exits
There are no public exits from Northpoint Capital to date. Sameer Brij Verma’s past investment track record includes notable exits and scale-ups such as Postman and Infra.market during his time at Nexus.
Other
Northpoint Capital enters the market during a competitive fundraising environment, but it stands out due to Verma’s track record and sectoral focus.
The fund has already attracted interest from global LPs looking to increase exposure to Indian tech startups with a strong early-stage thesis. Regulatory clearance is pending, and deployment is expected to begin shortly thereafter.
