Symphonic Capital

About

Symphonic Capital is a mission-driven venture capital firm founded in 2022 by Sydney Thomas, with a vision to back early-stage companies led by overlooked founders. Based in the United States, the firm is grounded in the belief that targeted, hands-on support for founders - particularly in underserved communities - can dramatically improve outcomes and close persistent gaps in access to capital. The firm is deeply committed to addressing systemic inequities and views venture investing as a long-term tool to reduce the racial wealth gap and health disparities across the U.S. Symphonic Capital operates with a refined and focused support strategy designed to help founders successfully transition from pre-seed to Series A.

Investment Focus

Symphonic Capital primarily invests in pre-seed and seed-stage startups focused on fintech and healthcare, with a strong emphasis on companies that are revenue-generating and building tangible products.

The firm is industry-focused, but values alignment and community insight are just as important in evaluating opportunities. The team looks for founders who are solving real-world problems that affect the majority of the population, especially those in communities often missed by traditional VC.

Fund

In 2025, Symphonic Capital announced the close of its $13.5 million debut fund. The inaugural fund is backed by a highly curated group of limited partners including Bank of America, Illumen Capital, Uplifting Capital, Candide Group, and Known Financial. It also received support from notable founders such as Wayee Chu (REACH Capital), Laura Spiekerman (Alloy), David Whelan (Town Hall Ventures), and Michael Seibel (Y Combinator).

This diverse and experienced LP base not only contributes capital, but also provides strategic insight and operational guidance. The fund is designed to provide concentrated, founder-first support with an investment model rooted in long-term impact and equity.

Rather than betting on volume, Symphonic seeks to make fewer, higher-conviction investments, offering deep engagement and a collaborative approach with its portfolio companies.
