Vireo Ventures

About

Vireo Ventures is a Berlin-based early-stage venture capital firm dedicated to accelerating Europe’s transition to an all-electric future. The firm began as a small angel investor network built on the conviction that electrification is both the defining challenge and the greatest investment opportunity of this decade. Today, Vireo manages institutional capital and collaborates with major European energy players to back startups driving innovation in grid intelligence, heat decarbonization, and electric mobility infrastructure.

Investment Focus

Vireo focuses on climate technology and energy transition solutions across Europe, particularly startups that support electrification.

Its sector priorities include grid optimisation, heat decarbonization, electric vehicle infrastructure, and other enabling technologies that strengthen Europe’s energy independence and competitiveness.

The firm emphasizes early-stage opportunities where technical innovation can be matched with industry partnerships to accelerate scaling.

Fund

In September 2025, Vireo Ventures announced the final close of its Electrification Fund I at €50 million, surpassing its original target. The fund is backed by a strong syndicate of strategic investors, including leading European energy companies Encevo, Verbund X, and EnBW New Ventures, as well as the European Investment Fund (EIF).

Electrification Fund I is designed to provide early-stage capital to startups addressing bottlenecks in Europe’s energy transition. Beyond financing, the fund leverages deep sector expertise from its limited partners, who actively collaborate with portfolio companies through pilot projects and scaling opportunities.

This hands-on, collaborative approach distinguishes Vireo from traditional venture funds by coupling financial backing with practical industry engagement.

Despite a challenging fundraising environment, the fund’s oversubscription reflects investor confidence in climate technology as a cornerstone of Europe’s future security and growth.
