Mother Ventures is a venture capital firm investing in companies building a better future for moms, parents, and families. Founded by General Partner Allison Stern, it is the first VC fund focused purely on the mother as consumer, spanning women's and family health, consumer products, entertainment, and shopping. In the U.S., moms are responsible for 85% of household purchases and have $2.4 trillion in spending power, which forms the core investment thesis of the firm.
The firm's four core focus areas are Maternal & Family Health, CPG & Physical Products, Entertainment & Play, and Shopping & Home Empowerment. However, Stern characterizes it as a broader consumer fund: the focus on the mother as consumer allows the firm to make wider bets beyond narrowly defined parenting tech. 90% of portfolio founders are parents who have personally experienced the problem they are solving.
Mother Ventures closed $10 million in commitments for its debut early-stage fund in May 2026. Anchor LP Tony James,l former President and COO of Blackstone and current board chair of Costco, backed the fund, alongside Jessica Rolph, founder of child development startup Lovevery, and female executives from Netflix, Rent the Runway, and Sesame Street.
Leadership
Allison Stern is the sole General Partner of Mother Ventures. Previously, she served as Operating Partner at The Chernin Group, leading deal teams and working as interim head of M&A at Food52. During the 2020 Presidential Campaign, she delivered digital partnerships for the Biden team. As co-founder of Tubular Labs, a social video and influencer measurement firm acquired by Chartbeat/Cuadrilla Capital, she led the company from zero to $25M ARR and raised over $50M in venture funding. She is a graduate of Yale University and Stanford's Graduate School of Business, and serves on the board of Chamber of Mothers. She lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
Investment Strategy
Mother Ventures backs early-stage startups serving the mother as consumer. Stern draws on her experience at The Chernin Group, which backed companies serving overlooked audiences with strong spending power, such as Barstool Sports for Boston sports fans, applying the same logic to the 85 million mothers across the U.S. The firm also brings together a community of LP business luminaries, portfolio companies, and a network of digital mom influencers and celebrities as a value-add for founders.
