Amplify Capital is a Toronto-based venture capital firm investing in early-stage impact startups across climate, health and work technology. Founded in 2016 as the MaRS Catalyst Fund, the firm spun out of MaRS Discovery District in 2019 and is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
Amplify Capital backs early-stage founders solving hard, technical and often regulated problems across three pillars: climate, spanning foundational energy, industrial and frontier technologies; health, covering technologies that improve the speed, quality and accessibility of care; and work, covering platforms reshaping education and employment.
The firm invests at the pre-seed, seed and Series A stages, primarily across Canada with a broader North American reach.
Amplify Capital held the final close of Fund III at $43 million, roughly two-thirds larger than its $25.7 million second fund from 2020.
The fund is backed by returning co-anchors Royal Bank of Canada and Fondaction, alongside the federal government's Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative and fund-of-funds Realize Capital Partners.
Amplify has deployed capital to 14 companies through Fund III toward a target of 25 to 30, and Fund I was fully returned with top-decile distributions across the firm's first two funds.

Craig Hunter joined as Partner in May 2025, previously an Uber executive, CEO of coding bootcamp Bitmaker, and General Manager at the Ritual food service app.
Investment Strategy
Amplify Capital writes checks of $500,000 to $2 million into pre-seed, seed and Series A companies, with roughly half of Fund III's capital designated for climate tech.
