Champion Leadership Group

About

Champion Leadership Group is a Dallas, Texas-based B2B SaaS and AI scale-up accelerator and investment firm founded by Jeff Mains. The firm combines venture capital with an operational platform, the SaaS Fuel™ ecosystem, built around a founder community, proprietary data infrastructure, and hands-on operational support. SaaS Fuel Fund I is the firm's debut institutional fund, targeting a specific and deliberately underserved stage of the SaaS market.

Investment Focus

SaaS Fuel Fund I targets approximately 30 B2B SaaS and AI companies in the $1M–$5M ARR range, a stage described as structurally neglected: too large for friends-and-family capital and too small for institutional funds whose check sizes require dilutive ownership at this valuation. The fund focuses exclusively on software businesses, with no sector restrictions beyond the B2B SaaS and AI designation.

Fund

SaaS Fuel Fund I closed at $55 million in May 2026, oversubscribed from its original $50 million target. The fund was raised in under 30 days with no road show, no placement agent, no pitch deck, and no outbound outreach, every LP commitment came inbound from exited SaaS founders and senior technology executives who had worked directly with the firm.

The fund charges no management fee. Carry is 20%, but only after a 9% preferred return hurdle, meaning every LP receives their capital back plus a 9% annual return before any carry is distributed. Managing Partner Jeff Mains committed $5 million of personal capital, nearly 10% of the fund, at identical terms to every LP.

Leadership

Jeff Mains is the founder and CEO of Champion Leadership Group, with five startups generating over $200 million in combined revenue and four successful exits to strategic buyers. He is the author of two business books; Small Fish, Big Pond and The Captain's Keys, and hosts the SaaS Fuel™ podcast, which reaches 12,000 founders monthly.

Investment Strategy

Initial checks range from $500K to $3M, with reserved capital for future rounds. Each portfolio company receives the SaaS Fuel Operating System™, a proprietary infrastructure trained on 81,000 closed private-market transactions, alongside access to a founder network of 17,000 operators and the Founder Flywheel™ network connecting portfolio founders with exited operators who serve as advisors, early customers, and follow-on investors. The firm currently serves 240 active founder clients through its accelerator program.

Other

The fund's economic structure, no management fee, a 9% preferred return hurdle, and a near-10% GP commitment, is notably founder-aligned relative to standard venture terms. The oversubscription was attributed entirely to trust built through the firm's accelerator and community work rather than any traditional fundraising activity.
