Floating Point is an early-stage venture capital firm based in New York and Boston, founded in 2021 by Eddie Segel and John Loser, former Bridgewater hedge fund investors who were later on the founding team of Oscar Health. The firm invests in complex, regulated parts of the real economy, healthcare, logistics, finance, insurance, energy, and defense, backing full-stack businesses that pair technology with real-world operations and physical assets. Its portfolio spans more than 40 companies that have collectively raised over $2 billion, including Ledgebrook, Altana, Setpoint, Mevo, and Ataraxis.
Floating Point invests in "full-stack" businesses that build a technology edge into real-world operations, physical assets, and financial products to transform established, often overlooked industries, healthcare, logistics, finance, insurance, energy, climate, and defense.
The firm's thesis is that complexity itself is a moat: it looks for companies that are difficult to build and harder to replicate, often requiring deep industry expertise just to get started, in sectors it argues are poorly served by traditional software-only venture strategies.
Floating Point invests early (typically pre-seed through Series A as a first check) and stays concentrated, partnering with founders through multiple subsequent rounds of growth; several portfolio companies have received follow-on capital from the firm through Series B.
The firm invests primarily in North America, with several Latin America-focused portfolio companies (Brazil).
Floating Point closed its third fund at $125 million, above its fundraising target, on August 17, 2026, bringing the firm's total assets under management to more than $300 million.
Fund III is backed by institutional investors, endowments and foundations, funds of funds, and the founders and chairmen of major hedge funds and private equity firms; specific investor names were not disclosed.
The raise follows a $70 million second fund closed in April 2024 (investors included 53 Stations, the venture arm of the Pritzker Organization) and a first fund raised around the firm's 2021 founding, reported by third-party sources at approximately $80 million but not officially disclosed by Floating Point.
Leadership
Venture Partners: Evan Moore (co-founder, DoorDash), Serkan Piantino (co-founder, Facebook AI), Jesse Horowitz (Chief Product Officer, Oscar Health), Neha Kumar (SVP Product, Datavant), Aaron Libbey (Chief Growth Officer, Altana), and Vinod Mitta, M.D. (SVP Policy & Strategy, Formation Bio). Jason Pritzker of the Pritzker Organization serves as an advisor.
Investment Strategy
Segel and Loser worked together for roughly two decades, first as investors at hedge fund Bridgewater Associates building trading systems, then on the founding team of Oscar Health, where they led product, data, and risk through the company's 2021 IPO.
Floating Point pairs first-principles underwriting with hands-on work alongside founders, keeping a concentrated portfolio to allow more time with each company, and positions itself as long-term, patient capital rather than a round-by-round investor.
