Fresenius Ventures is the corporate venture capital (CVC) arm of Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a Bad Homburg, Germany-based global healthcare company. Launched in July 2026, the unit combines venture investing with Fresenius' medical, regulatory, and operational expertise, and connects portfolio companies to clinical, scientific, and academic networks.

Investment Focus

Fresenius Ventures invests in healthcare founders, technologies, and business models from early financing rounds through the growth stage, in growth fields adjacent to Fresenius' existing strategic platforms: BioPharma, MedTech, and Care Provision.

Potential investment areas include precision nutrition, microbiome research, new treatment modalities, and digital care provision solutions.

Fund

Fresenius Ventures is a corporate venture capital (CVC) fund, not an LP-raised fund, it is capitalized directly by parent company Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA rather than through a traditional fundraise or first close.

The unit has an intended investment volume of more than $228M (≈€200M) to be deployed over the next five years, in line with Fresenius' capital allocation approach.

Leadership

Dr. Thomas Michael Thestrup is Managing Director and Head of Fresenius Ventures.

He joined from Angelini Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Italian industrial group Angelini Industries, and previously held roles at Lundbeck A/S (Director of Corporate Business Development and Strategy), UCB (Global Business Development), and Sunstone Capital (Life Science Ventures).

He holds a Ph.D. from the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Munich. Michael Sen serves as CEO of parent company Fresenius.
