Genesia Ventures is a Tokyo-based seed and early-stage venture capital firm founded by Soichi Tajima, investing in innovative digital startups across Japan, Southeast Asia, and India. The name is a portmanteau of "genesis" and "Asia," reflecting the firm's commitment to creating new business opportunities across the region. Operating since 2017, the firm has grown from a Japan-only seed investor into a four-office regional platform with full-time teams in Tokyo, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, and Bengaluru. With Fund IV, Genesia manages approximately $340 million in assets across four funds.
Genesia is sector-agnostic by design, with thematic concentration around AI, energy transition, healthcare, insurance, supply-chain infrastructure, alternative credit, and other categories where Asia's structural changes are creating venture-scale opportunities. The firm invests in seed and early-stage digital startups and takes a concentrated portfolio approach, Fund IV will make fewer total investments than prior funds, going deeper into each company. The firm operates Genesia Orbit, a founder community active across its markets, including a dedicated Genesia Orbit Vietnam chapter.
Fund IV closed at approximately $113 million (¥18 billion) in May 2026, anchored by the Japan Investment Corporation (JIC), which committed $22.5 million. Additional LPs include Japanese and international institutional investors and financial institutions named on the firm's website, Aizawa Securities, Canal Ventures, Canon Marketing Japan, Cygames, DBJ Capital, Dai Nippon Printing, FFG Venture Business Partners, GREE Ventures, JA Mitsui Leasing, Marui Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mixi, Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Capital, OLC, Tokyu Land, and others. Fund IV-specific portfolio investments have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Fund III closed at approximately $110 million. Fund II and Fund I were earlier, smaller vehicles investing primarily in Japan.
Leadership
Soichi Tajima is founder and General Partner. He previously worked at CyberAgent Ventures (now CyberAgent Capital), which gave him an early seat at Asia's mobile internet wave and a network across Japanese corporate LPs and operators. Takahiro Suzuki is General Partner and Head of Overseas Investments, anchoring Genesia's regional presence outside Japan. He has been a vocal advocate for the thesis that AI and energy transition are particularly well-suited to Asia's industrial structure, where startups can pair software innovation with manufacturing scale. The firm maintains regional investment leads in Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, and Bengaluru.
Investment Strategy
Genesia invests at seed and early stage, with historical check sizes in the $500K–$3M range and reserves for follow-on. Fund IV will run a more concentrated portfolio than prior funds — fewer total investments, more capital and time per company. The firm's value-add centers on unlocking Japanese corporate distribution and capital networks for portfolio companies in Southeast Asia and India, and on founder community infrastructure through Genesia Orbit. Initial checks have not been officially disclosed for Fund IV.
