Illuminate Financial is a fintech-focused venture capital firm founded in 2014, specializing in institutional financial services technology across capital markets, insurance, wealth management, and payments. With four funds and $500 million raised, the firm has invested in 55 companies and completed 14 exits across its London, New York, and Singapore offices.
Illuminate focuses exclusively on enterprise AI and fintech companies serving institutional financial services: capital markets technology, fixed income infrastructure, insurance technology, wealth management technology, and digital payments. The firm targets companies that sell into banks, asset managers, and financial market infrastructure providers rather than consumer-facing fintech.
The firm’s LP base of eight major global financial institutions serves as both capital and commercial validation for portfolio companies, providing direct access to some of the world’s largest potential enterprise customers.
Illuminate Financial’s Early Growth Fund, the firm’s fourth fund, closed at $135 million in April 2026. This is Illuminate’s first fund targeting the Series B+ stage, a deliberate expansion built on over a decade of early-stage fintech investing. The LP base includes BNP Paribas, Citi, Deutsche Börse, HSBC, Jefferies, RBC, S&P Global, and TD Securities. The fund has already backed Pliant, TransFICC, Zocks, and Endowus.
Across four funds, Illuminate has raised $500 million, invested in 55 companies, and completed 14 exits.
Leadership
Mark Beeston is Founder and Managing Partner of Illuminate Financial. He has over 20 years of experience in capital markets, having worked as both a consumer of financial markets technology and as an entrepreneur, operator, and early-stage funder of capital markets businesses. The investment team includes Alexander Ross, Rezso Szabo, Rachel Townend, and Luca Zorzino as Investment Partners.
Investment Strategy
The Early Growth Fund targets Series B+ stage companies, expanding Illuminate’s historical focus from early-stage into growth. The firm’s model is differentiated by its institutional LP base, which acts as a commercial network and reference customer pool for portfolio companies. Illuminate’s global presence across London, New York, and Singapore provides connectivity to the leading financial centers where enterprise fintech deals are made.
Notable Investments
The portfolio spans institutional fintech across fixed income, payments, and wealth management:
Other
Illuminate’s LP base functions as a built-in commercial validation network. Portfolio companies can access introductions to eight of the world’s largest financial institutions as part of the firm’s value-add. Founders building enterprise fintech for institutional clients benefit from this connectivity more than from traditional VC networks. The firm does not invest in consumer-facing fintech.
