J-Ventures

About

J-Ventures is a Palo Alto-based early-stage venture firm founded in 2018 by Jim Koshland and Oded Hermoni, operating across the US and Israel under what it calls a "Capitalist Kibbutz" model. The firm is built around a curated community of approximately 600 investors, operators, current and former VC partners, and serial founders, each capped at $500K in individual LP commitment, who collectively source deals, conduct diligence, and support portfolio companies. The firm has backed nearly 50 companies across three funds, with portfolio companies raising more than $2.5B in follow-on funding and six acquisitions completed to date.

Investment Focus

J-Ventures backs early-stage companies in AI-native software, cybersecurity, data infrastructure, and applied AI across the US and Israel.

The firm's LP community includes senior operators from Nvidia, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Intel, and OpenAI, giving portfolio companies distribution depth in the categories where J-Ventures invests most actively.

Leadership

Oded Hermoni is Managing Partner and Co-Founder, a Jerusalem-born former technology journalist who founded two startups and was previously a partner at Rhodium, giving him deep roots in both the Israeli and Bay Area ecosystems.

Investment Strategy

J-Ventures invests at seed stage across the US and Israel, writing early checks into AI-native software, cybersecurity, and infrastructure companies.

The "Capitalist Kibbutz" model is the firm's core structural differentiator: individual LP commitments are deliberately capped at $500K to keep the community distributed, egalitarian, and collectively engaged. Investment decisions are made collaboratively across the network.

Portfolio companies gain access to Fortune 500 executives for enterprise introductions, current and former VC partners for follow-on capital pathways, and serial entrepreneurs for operational guidance. The firm rejected more than $15M in over-cap demand at Fund III close to preserve this model.
