Ruya Ventures is a London-based solo GP deep tech fund founded by Rick Hao, former head of Speedinvest's deep tech investment team. At Speedinvest, Hao backed more than 30 companies across AI, battery tech, quantum computing, semiconductors, energy, and robotics. Ruya was named Newcomer of the Year in deep tech at the EUVC Awards in April 2026, before its public launch. The fund closed oversubscribed in under a year, with Hao deliberately capping it at $50M to match a concentrated, hands-on investment model.
Ruya backs deep tech founders at day zero, sometimes before incorporation, a cap table, or even a company name, across AI, battery technology, semiconductors, materials science, and next-generation computing.
The fund targets founders bridging the gap between a working prototype and a product that can be manufactured at scale and adopted by the market, with particular focus on manufacturing readiness, supply chain setup, and commercialization pathways that are typically missing from early deep tech pitches.
Ruya Ventures Fund I closed at $50M in 2026, oversubscribed and completed in under a year. Hao capped the fund deliberately to maintain a concentrated portfolio of approximately 20 companies globally.
LP composition is not publicly disclosed. The fund has already made five investments: WLF Energy, MegaCool, and three stealth companies in AI, robotics, and semiconductors.
Leadership
Rick Hao is Founder and Solo GP. He previously led Speedinvest's deep tech team, where he backed 30+ companies across AI, battery tech, quantum computing, semiconductors, energy, and robotics.
He holds deep technical expertise across hardware-intensive sectors and has built relationships across European deep tech research and commercial ecosystems over his investing career.
Investment Strategy
Ruya invests at the pre-seed and pre-company stage, providing capital and hands-on support before most investors will engage.
The fund focuses on a small number of high-conviction investments, approximately 20 globally, rather than building a diversified portfolio. Post-investment support focuses specifically on the hardest transition in deep tech: from prototype to manufacturable, market-ready product.
This includes helping founders develop manufacturing plans, identify supply chain partners, and close the gap between lab output and commercial deployment. As a solo GP, Hao can move faster and with more flexibility than a partnership structure allows.
