Seedcamp

About

Seedcamp is a London and New York-based seed venture firm founded in 2007 by Reshma Sohoni and Carlos Espinal, Europe's original first-check institutional investor. Over nearly two decades, Seedcamp has backed more than 550 companies, built 12 unicorns, and produced some of the strongest fund returns in European venture.

Investment Focus

Seedcamp backs pre-product, pre-revenue, and pre-traction founders at seed stage across Europe, with a deliberate thematic shift in Fund VII toward AI at the intersection of science and the physical world.

This includes autonomous robotics, defense and national security, health tech, space manufacturing, deep tech spinouts, and vertical AI with genuine data or operational advantage.

The firm explicitly avoids capital-intensive categories like mobility and marketplace infrastructure, preferring software-driven, commercially-oriented businesses that can scale globally.

Fund

Seedcamp closed $320M across two vehicles in June 2026: Seedcamp VII ($220M), the flagship first-check fund targeting 100–120 investments, and Select ($100M), a follow-on vehicle backing portfolio winners through Series B and beyond with $3–5M checks.

LPs include British Business Bank, HarbourVest, Schroders, and Sofina, alongside 80 portfolio company founders who invested as angels.

Fund VII is the firm's largest raise to date, nearly double Fund VI ($180M, 2023).

Fund III returned over 13x DPI (50.3% net IRR) to LPs, with the $23M fund generating over $446M in returns. Fund IV sits at over 5x net TVPI.

With the close of Fund VII and Select at $320M total, Seedcamp has crossed $1B in AUM, and is making its most significant strategic expansion since inception: building a transatlantic platform to connect European founders with US capital, customers, and commercial talent from day one.

Leadership

Reshma Sohoni is Co-Founder and Managing Partner, one of the most recognized voices in European venture and a fixture on the Midas Seed List and Midas List Europe.

Hilary Howe is Director and head of the Select fund, based in New York, leading Seedcamp's US expansion. The firm operates with a deliberately lean seven-person investment team.

Investment Strategy

Seedcamp writes approximately $1M first checks into seed-stage companies, targeting 35 new investments per year (100–120 per fund cycle).

The firm takes below-10% initial ownership stakes, enabling it to bring angels and co-investors into early rounds and build a distributed founder network.

Post-investment, every team member plays an active role across portfolio companies, a deliberately non-lone-wolf, collective model.

Select invests $3–5M as follow-on at Series B and beyond into the strongest breakout companies from the core fund.

The US expansion,. led by Hilary Howe from New York, gives portfolio companies direct access to US customers, capital, and commercial and technical hiring from day one.
