Skybound Venture Capital is an Athens-based founder-led early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2025, focused exclusively on deep tech. The firm was founded by Thaleia Misailidou, previously at Marathon Venture Capital and active in the Greek deep tech ecosystem, and George Varvarelis, co-founder of Augmenta, which was acquired by CNH Industrial. Skybound invests globally with European roots, backing technically ambitious founders building defensible technologies with long-term industrial and societal impact.
Skybound invests in pre-seed and seed-stage companies developing technically complex software and hardware across infrastructure, advanced computing, bioengineering, agriculture, space, energy, robotics, longevity, AI safety, and frontier technologies. The firm targets founders building original technologies ahead of broad market adoption, with a focus on companies combining rigorous scientific research with scalable commercial applications.
Skybound's inaugural fund completed an oversubscribed first close at $38 million in May 2026, anchored by the European Investment Fund through Equifund II. No final close date or expanded target has been publicly disclosed. The fund is already deploying, with investments including Neurosoft Bioelectronics (scalable, minimally invasive brain-computer interfaces), Phagos (drug discovery), ACX, and Intryc (business productivity software), with the latter three predating the fund close.
Leadership
Thaleia Misailidou is co-founder and General Partner. Prior to Skybound, she worked at Marathon Venture Capital and built a track record within the Greek deep tech ecosystem. George Varvarelis is co-founder and General Partner, having previously co-founded Augmenta, a precision agriculture technology company acquired by CNH Industrial, giving him direct founder-to-exit experience in deep tech. Tarık Dutkuner is an early team member who joined ahead of the fund close and is part of the international team based in Athens.
Investment Strategy
Initial check sizes range from $500,000 to $2 million at pre-seed and seed. The firm maintains a concentrated portfolio strategy with significant follow-on reserves for selected companies. Skybound takes a founder-led, operationally focused approach, moving at founder pace, going deep on a small number of companies, and engaging from the earliest stages of company formation. The firm explicitly positions itself against passive fund models, with the team reviewing 20+ companies weekly and providing hands-on support across go-to-market, financial modeling, and fundraising. The firm tracks Greek and diaspora founders globally before they begin fundraising.
