Sonder Capital is a San Carlos, California-based venture capital firm co-founded in 2019 by Fred Moll, MD, and Jay Watkins to back early-stage medical device, diagnostic, and healthtech companies with transformational potential. Sonder Capital closed Futures II on March 24, 2026, with Mayo Clinic and Sutter Health participating as strategic limited partners. The fund is anchored by a thesis focused on AI-enabled medical robotics and minimally invasive therapies, targeting companies that create entirely new care pathways rather than incremental improvements.

The strategic LP base reflects a shared institutional interest in identifying and accelerating technologies that can advance the future of patient care at the delivery level. Fund size was not disclosed.

Leadership

Kate Garrett serves as Managing Partner, leading Sonder Capital's investment strategy and day-to-day operations. She brings more than 17 years of experience in the medical device industry as a serial inventor, entrepreneur, and operator. Fred Moll, MD, co-founded the firm in 2019 and now serves as Co-Chair. Widely credited as a pioneer in robotic surgery, Moll co-founded Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ: ISRG) in 1995 and served as its first CEO. Jay Watkins, co-founder and Co-Chair, brings deep operational experience in healthcare and life sciences.

Investment Strategy

Sonder Capital invests at the Seed and Series A stages in medical device, diagnostic, and healthtech companies, focusing on early-stage opportunities where its operating network of founders, executives, and board members with direct medtech experience can provide substantive support beyond capital.
