Sonder Capital is a San Carlos, California-based venture capital firm co-founded in 2019 by Fred Moll, MD, and Jay Watkins to back early-stage medical device, diagnostic, and healthtech companies with transformational potential. The firm draws on its founders' decades of operating experience in medtech to identify teams building technologies capable of creating new care pathways, not merely improving existing ones.
Sonder Capital targets AI-enabled medical robotics, minimally invasive therapies, and diagnostics. The firm focuses on companies addressing billion-dollar-plus market opportunities where technology can meaningfully shift patient outcomes, expand access to care, or fundamentally reshape healthcare delivery business models.
Sonder Capital closed Futures II on March 24, 2026, with Mayo Clinic and Sutter Health participating as strategic limited partners. The fund is anchored by a thesis focused on AI-enabled medical robotics and minimally invasive therapies, targeting companies that create entirely new care pathways rather than incremental improvements.
The strategic LP base reflects a shared institutional interest in identifying and accelerating technologies that can advance the future of patient care at the delivery level. Fund size was not disclosed.
