The Footprint Firm is a Copenhagen based venture capital and impact firm founded in 2019 to back technologies that accelerate the global green transition. The firm invests across food, construction, materials, energy, biotech, and software, with a strong focus on Northern Europe. Alongside investing, The Footprint Firm operates a major sustainability advisory unit that supports corporates, investors, and public institutions. With more than 30 professionals, the firm has become a central climate tech platform in the Nordic region.
Footprint Fund I closed at 76 million euros in January 2026. The fund aims to invest in around 30 early stage deeptech companies across the green transition. LPs include North East Family Office, EIFO, Realdania, Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker, TryghedsGruppen, Lauritzen Fonden, Nordea fnden, Novo Holdings, and Velliv Foreningen.
The vehicle has already invested in 20 startups and targets technologies in biotech, climate tech, AI, circular manufacturing, decarbonization, foodtech, materials, and energy systems.
The fund deploys checks from 500 thousand to 2 million euros and focuses on hands on support at the pre seed and seed stages. Backed by a team of 45 sustainability and investment specialists, the fund combines capital with technical diligence, commercial validation, and access to industry partners across the Nordics.

Leadership includes Managing Partner Jakob Mathias Wichmann, CEO Anna Søndergaard, and Partner Christian Sparrevohn. The wider team covers climate science, engineering, life sciences, finance, and sustainability strategy.
Investment Strategy
The firm invests at the earliest stages and partners closely with founders to validate technology, demonstrate impact, and prepare for commercial scaling. The strategy integrates impact metrics with financial discipline and places emphasis on deeptech solutions that require scientific rigor, industrial partnerships, and thoughtful go to market execution.
